Welcome to this month’s update from the Peninsula School District Performance Drone Team! Our student pilots continue to push the boundaries of creativity, engineering, and teamwork as they design, program, and perform with precision drones. From honing flight maneuvers to collaborating on synchronized routines, the team exemplifies innovation in action.

This month, we’re highlighting recent achievements, upcoming events, and ways our students are learning leadership and STEM skills that extend far beyond the flight field.

Big news! We’re officially on Facebook and Instagram, and we couldn’t be more excited to connect with you there. Think of our social channels as a front-row seat to our journey: behind-the-scenes peeks, meet-the-team moments, rehearsal snapshots, Q&As, and the little day-to-day stories that don’t always make it into a newsletter. We want our socials to feel like a conversation, not just a bulletin board—so come say hi, comment, and share what you’d love to see.

ParentSquare will remain our home base for the essentials: it’s still the best place to read our newsletters and check the full calendar. When you need details, dates, and the big picture, ParentSquare is where to go. Our social pages will complement that with live updates—think quick reminders, day-of changes, ticket alerts, and early info about future shows—plus a closer look at the people and process behind it all.
If you haven’t already, please follow us and turn on notifications so you don’t miss a moment. Invite a friend, tag us when you spot us out in the community, and help spread the word as we grow. Your follows and shares really do make a difference.

And a little teaser just for our newsletter readers: keep a close eye on our new social feeds. We’ll be dropping clues and announcements about upcoming surprise pop-up shows—yes, the kind that appear when you least expect them—possibly in a place near you, and sooner than you think!

Monthly Spotlight on a Drone Team Member

Matthew Cooper wearing headphones with a microphone looks intently forward.

Meet Matthew Cooper

My name is Matthew, and I’m a student at Gig Harbor High School. I’m a crewmember on our performance drone team, where I help set up and run equipment during practices and shows. I’m currently working toward my Part 107 certification so I can take on a more active role in performances. As an aspiring pilot, I’m looking forward to piloting my first show this winter.

I joined the team to challenge myself and to better understand how coordinated drone formations are designed and brought to life in the sky. It’s been a rewarding and fascinating experience, and I’m excited to keep learning and growing with the program.

Meet Wyatt Hoggatt

My name is Wyatt, and I’m an animator on our performance drone team. I focus on designing formations, transitions, and timing that bring our shows to life. I’ve also cross-trained as a Visual Observer to support practices and performances, help ensure safe, smooth flights, and better understand what pilots need from an animation.

I’m currently sharpening my skills creating flight-ready animations that are clear, efficient, and reliable in the real-world conditions our team faces. I’m excited to keep learning and to take on more responsibility as my skills grow, helping our team deliver better, more engaging and custom performances.

Upcoming Events

All shows are weather dependent

Keep an Eye on our Socials - Pop-up Shows

Over the next month, on dry nights you may find us flying over your neighborhood schools. Keep an eye on our new Socials and follow us around Gig Harbor, Purdy and the Key Peninsula as we practice and show off our amazing drones (expect 6 to 24 hours notice for any of our pop-up shows). All shows are weather, location and staff dependent.

Interested in Booking our Team?

While we don’t have any shows on the calendar right now, the Performance Drone Team is ready to take flight at your event! We’re seeking opportunities to perform and welcome inquiries from organizations, community events, and potential sponsors. All shows are weather dependent, and we work closely with hosts to ensure every performance is safe, precise, and unforgettable. If you’d like to bring the excitement of a drone show to your audience, let’s make it happen!
